In the age of digital transformation, where should society draw the line between ensuring public safety and protecting individual privacy rights?

Alex V. Smirnov, CEO and Founder of DeepCity, Inc., shares his perspective:

“The public safety and privacy are not competing priorities. A modern digital society must be capable of achieving both. The real challenge is not whether technologies are used, but how they are governed.

Citizens have a legitimate expectation that governments and organizations will use technology to create safer environments… At the same time, people have a fundamental right to know what data is being collected, how it is being used, who has access to it, and how it is protected.

The line should therefore be drawn at transparency, accountability, and proportionality… Ultimately, technology should empower citizens — not monitor them without oversight.”
